Goals get us going
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
My schedule was full of accounting classes. Ignoring my despise for office work, I was going to get my accounting certificate.
I was working towards something, but God had something better. Because of my goal, I was able to discover my true passion. I persevered and completed my accounting goal, and I took what I learned in accounting into what God called me to. Writing.
God never said not to make plans, but we can trust He has better plans than what we can dream up. Goals and plans can get us going in that we are working toward something. Even if that thing isn’t what you thought it would look like in the end. God can work through and with every goal you are working towards, but sometimes he will reroute us if he has a better plan for us. Now, I laugh at myself for choosing accounting, but I also praise God for His hand through it all.
Life changes very fast
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
Last March, I was in Florida for my friend’s bachelorette. I affirmed my friend who was to be married in Florida in April as planned. I told her things would blow over and she would definitely have her dream destination wedding. Boy, was I wrong.
I wish I would have said something along the lines of: We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but we can place our trust in WHO does know. Though life changes quickly, our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Expect the unexpected
“The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.” (Proverbs 10:28)
I had my expectations in my desired outcome of the 2020 election, but through my disappointment I am able to more clearly see that my hope is in my eternal KING not an earthly elected president. Having expectations that life’s outcomes on this earth will always be good and favorable is dangerous. We are not promised an easy life as believers.
Never lose hope
“Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 23:18)
It’s easy to lose hope. I’ve lost all hope in the government and culture many times last year. Good thing my eternal hope is not in those things. We can hope for current circumstances to change, but they are not guaranteed to. Holding onto our eternal hope comes with a sealed promised guarantee. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Our future is not here. Our future lies in eternity.
Stay constantly renewing your mind
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
This last year many of us consumed more media than ever. Guilty! Our minds are not meant to carry every news headline or internet argument with us. We are called to allow scripture to transform our minds daily. So get in God’s word every day! If you are in need of a plan, I recommend this chronological plan.
For me, 2021 has already had its fair share of ups and downs. I am excited to see where God will lead this year!
Stay encouraged friends!
God bless,
Love Britney
