It’s 9 PM on a Saturday.
You’re drained and exhausted from a long week of work, school, errands, new puppy etc.
How do you unwind?
What does that even mean? Am I right?
We all have something keeping us on our feet for what feels like 24/7. We never take time to rest. In fact, many of us don’t even really know how to unwind or withdraw because life treats us like a 24 hour IHOP.
I have the 7 (not-so-secret secrets) to help you unwind && withdraw from the world. Even if it’s only for just an hour!
CANDLES
This is one of the first things I do when I get the chance to relax. I love lighting a lavender, eucalyptus, or lilac candle and allowing the scent take me to a natural scene in the middle of nowhere. Just be careful with these, I’m saying this from personal experience! Don’t leave dry rags near them or put them where you relax your head in the bathtub.
HERBAL TEA
Another way to relax is to involve your taste senses. Brewing a steaming pot of chamomile, peppermint, or lavender cuppa tea is something I love to treat myself to. I don’t know all the benefits of herbal tea but there definitely is a long list so try out this wonderful way to withdraw.
FACE MASKS
I love doing face masks. As the mask purifies my pores, I also like to imagine it purifying my mind. My favorite masks are the Cucumber Mask from Mario Badescu, and the Coffee Mask from Lush. This is definitely one of my favorite ways to unwind.
MUSIC
Music doesn’t just incorporate the sense of sound, I feel it in the sense of my soul. Choosing the right playlist is key when it comes to relaxing to the core of who you are. I like to create the perfect playlist in advance when it comes to relaxing time. My favorite genres to unwind are alternative, classical, indie rock, and christian especially the acoustic version of my fave songs.
BOOKS
Reading may not be everyone’s way to relax since it can be tied to school, but I love reading. Books that contain a lot of imagery are the best because they appeal to the sense of sight in the mind which assists in taking you far away from where you are. One of my favorite books to read when relaxing is A Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp!
NETFLIX
Now this may be the most common way everyone unwinds, but I have an extra tip to add. Watch something that makes you laugh! When you are trying to unwind don’t watch your murder mystery which has yet to be solved. May I suggest watching The Office or Parks and Rec or Last Man Standing (if you have Hulu)? They never fail to make me laugh.
BATH
Not everyone likes to take a bath but I say don’t knock it before you’ve tried it the right way. I like to do almost all of the above while taking a bath. It is the most relaxing thing! Y’all need to try it. I love using soothing bath bombs, bath salts, and bath soaps!
Ways you unwind && withdraw may not come from this list I just hope you take the time you need, because the bible even calls for us to take the time to rest. There’s no need to feel guilty taking an hour a week to practice these things.
Check out Psalm 46:10, 3:5, 4:8, Genesis 2:3, Exodus 20:8-10, 33:14, Matthew 11:28-30, Mark 6:31, Hebrews 4:9-11
God bless
